Abiquiu, New Mexico

Albuquerque International Sunport

Abiquiu is about 2 hours (128 miles) north of Albuquerque (most likely best choice for flights).

Santa Fe Municipal Airport
121 Aviation Drive
Santa Fe, NM 87507

American Eagle Airlines is currently operating four daily flights out of Santa Fe to and from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and one daily flight from Los Angeles.

United Airlines has non-stop jet service from Denver.

Getting to the Ranch from the Airport:

Option 1: Car rentals are available at the airport in Albuquerque.

Option 2: We are working to coordinate ride shares and/or shuttle service from the Airports out to the Ranch on Friday (and Saturday morning, if needed). If you are flying into the area and do not want to rent a car to get to the Ranch, please let us know when you will be arriving, and we will make sure you have round trip transportation from the airport to the Ranch, and then back to Albuquerque in Sunday.

Alternatively, if you are planning to rent a car, and would be willing to give a ride to another guest arriving in Albuquerque at roughly the same time, please let us know so we can coordinate ride sharing.

Let us know if you:

1- need a ride to the ranch from the airport

2- can give someone a ride to the ranch from the airport

3- want to coordinate with another guest to share a hotel room to save on cost

THings to do

We have put together a list of some fun, unique stuff to do and see in the area. Beyond the striking natural beauty of the region, there is a thriving artist community, amazing local food, mineral hot springs, museums, countless outdoor adventures and unique oddities in New Mexico, the "Land of Enchantment."

Ghost Ranch

Ghost Ranch, famous for hosting painter Georgia O'Keefe, is also home to many dinosaur fossils, hiking trails and kayaking! There are tours of the ranch (either hiking or on horse back), an art museum, a paleontology museum, yoga classes and even massages. Some classes/bodywork may need to be scheduled in advance.

Abiquiú Studio Tour

October 7th, 8th and 9th more than eighty Abiquiú artists open their studios from 10:am to – 5:pm to friends, old and new, during one of the most beautiful times of the year in Northern New Mexico. The Abiquiú Studio Tour is a self-guided, driving tour that takes visitors and collectors through the village of Abiquiú and the surrounding Chama River Valley – a landscape of imposing mountains, spectacular rock formations, and the glorious rivers of the Piedra Lumbra basin.

For nine days in October, the New Mexico skies are painted as hundreds of balloons lift off from Albuquerque's Balloon Fiesta Park. Nothing rivals the power of Mass Ascension on crisp early mornings as these graceful giants leave the ground to take their place in the cerulean desert sky. For ballooning fans worldwide, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is a pilgrimage. There's something for everyone to enjoy . . . whimsical special shapes filled with equal parts of hot air and wonder, and Balloon Glows that create a magical night landscape for spectators to wander. No matter who you are, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta will leave you awestruck and wanting more.

Georgia O'Keeffe Museum

The Museum’s galleries offer a deeper understanding of O’Keeffe’s art, life, and times. Explore a remarkable American story through O’Keeffe’s art, art materials, and personal possessions, along with photographs and documents from her life. We frequently feature special installations and highlights drawing upon the strength of our collections and special loans. From time to time, the contents of the galleries change as new objects go on view and special projects and installations are presented.

Meow Wolf

Meow Wolf is an arts production company that creates immersive, multimedia experiences that transport audiences of all ages into fantastic realms of storytelling. Our work is a combination of jungle gym, haunted house, children’s museum, and immersive art exhibit. This unique fusion of art and entertainment gives audiences fictional worlds to explore.

Christ of the Desert Monastery (and Brewery)

1305 Forest Service Rd 151 Abiquiu, NM 87510, United States

Tucked deep within the Chama Mountains is this beautiful monastery and sanctuary. Go for mass or just to explore the grounds. It's well worth the hour drive on the windy, rustic road off Highway 84.

They also brew beer here on a small scale (Monk's Ale). Unfortunately, they don't have on-site tasting rooms, so don't show up at the monastery expecting to drink.

Purple Adobe Lavender Farm

Abiquiu, NM, United States

Visit the lavender farm and it's gift shop!

El Santuario de Chimayo Historic Site

15B Santuario Dr, Chimayo, NM 87522, United States

This church has been said to be built on ground made of "holy dirt". As such, pilgrims from all over the world make a stop here to heal body, mind and spirit. Many miracles are reported to have been performed after touching and praying with this holy dirt.

This is not far from Abiquiu and can be done as a short trip from Ghost Ranch or the Abiquiu Inn.

Bandelier National Monument

These ancient cave dwellings were home to some of New Mexico's ancestral pueblo Indians. There are several trails to hike where you can climb up ladders and into the caves, but you can also walk along the dirt path and see them from down below. Petroglyphs can also be seen within the rocks.

Located about an hour west of Santa Fe. Best to visit if you're going to be spending a night in Santa Fe.

Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort & Spa

Ojo Caliente, NM 87549, United States

Go for a soak in the hot springs, get a massage or spa treatment, relax, indulge!

***If you are using GPS to lead you to this resort, make sure to search the TOWN of Ojo Caliente, NOT the address of the spa! The GPS coordinates are not accurate, and it may lead you in the wrong direction. Mapquest "Ojo Caliente, New Mexico" and you will find it. The town is so small, you can't pass through without seeing signs to the hot springs.***
